Dr. G’s replacement sacs are black latex rubber, made to traditional size and thickness specs, in even sizes from 14 to 22. A fresh sac seats firmly and seals well, so your pen fills and writes the way it should. And if you’re new to pen repair, take heart: replacing a sac is a straightforward job, and there are good tutorials all over the fountain pen community to walk you through it.

Here’s the honest answer most charts won’t give you: sac sizing is always approximate. The right sac is simply the largest one that slides into the barrel easily — and short of measuring, the surest way to have that size on hand is to keep a range of them. That’s why we recommend an assortment rather than guessing at a single size. Start with the 10-piece assortment if you’ve got one or two pens to do; step up to the 50 or 100 if you restore regularly.
